After Builders Cleaning Guide

After Builders Cleaning: Getting Your London Property Back to Normal

Building work is exciting when the results are a beautiful new extension, a loft conversion, or a renovated kitchen. What is less exciting is the mess left behind. Builders dust, cement splashes, paint splatters, and general construction grime can leave your windows and exterior looking worse than before the work started.

Common Post-Construction Window Problems

After building work, we typically encounter several types of contamination on windows. Cement and mortar splashes are one of the most common and potentially damaging issues. If left to cure fully, cement can etch into glass and become extremely difficult to remove without specialist tools. Paint splashes, whether from interior or exterior painting, end up on windows with surprising regularity. Builders dust settles on every surface, including window tracks, seals, and frames. And adhesive residues from protective tape or film can leave sticky marks.

Why Speed Matters

The single most important thing about after-builders window cleaning is timing. Fresh cement splashes can be removed relatively easily, but once they fully cure (usually within 24 to 48 hours), they bond to the glass and require abrasive removal methods that risk scratching. Similarly, fresh paint is much easier to remove than dried paint.

We recommend booking your after-builders clean as soon as the building work is complete, ideally within the first few days.

Our After-Builders Cleaning Process

Our after-builders service goes beyond a standard window clean. We carefully assess each window for contamination type and severity. We use specialist scrapers and solvents appropriate to each type of deposit. We clean frames, tracks, and seals as well as glass. And we check for any damage to seals or glazing that may have occurred during construction.

We work carefully and methodically because rushed post-construction cleaning can cause permanent damage to glass. Aggressive scraping or the wrong solvents can leave scratches that are more noticeable than the original contamination.

Exterior Cleaning After Building Work

Windows are usually the most visible problem, but building work affects other surfaces too. Driveways and paths get stained with cement, mortar, and paint. Gutters may be full of construction debris. And fascias and soffits can be splashed or dusty.

At TVT London, we offer a complete after-builders exterior cleaning package that covers every surface affected by construction work. Contact us for a post-construction cleaning quote.
